Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!

Today, March 2nd is Dr. Seuss' Birthday!!  Born in 1904, Dr. Seuss would be 106 this year.  Tonight we celebrate with Read Across America @ 7pm.  Registration required.  Call 973-584-2400 x503 to register.

New programs for March

We have added/adjusted programs for March in response to the Children's Programming Survey:

1) Tuesday After School Craft: 4-4:45 - Open to all ages & firmly limited to the first twenty participants. 
2) Friday Storytime & Craft:  4-4:45 - All ages.  No limit. 

Give Me 20 for Preschoolers

For March and April we are doing the Give Me 20 program with our preschoolers.  Sign up @ the Children's Reference Desk by March 10th.  From March 1st through April 25th, if you read 800 minutes with your preschooler, you will receive a prize packet.  In addition, every week we will have books online you can read.  This week's book is My Little Sister Ate One Hare by Bill Grossman - http://www.bookitprogram.com/redzone/onemorestory.asp.

Stop by the Children's Department to show your love!!  In celebration of Love Your Library Month and Valentine's Day, stop by to fill out a heart with why you love the Roxbury Public Library.  Hearts will be at the Children's Reference Desk and will be hung in the library for the month of February.

Little Pim


Little Pim is in!! 

Little Pim is a company that makes language learning DVDs for preschoolers.  We have ten languages (some are awaiting processing) available and they are very highly reviewed.  Languages include:  French, Spanish, ESL, Italian, German, Hebrew, Chinese Mandarin, Japanese, Arabic and Russian.  There are three thematic DVDs for each language:  Eating and Drinking, Wake Up Smiling, Playtime. 

Little Pim has even more activities to enhance language learning on their website.  One fun example is the Interactive Coloring Book - http://www.littlepim.com/fun-games/talking-coloring-book/

“ Why I Love My Library” 50th Anniversary Adult and Youth Essay Contest
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Roxbury Public Library, the Friends of the Library are holding an essay contest entitled “Why I Love My Library”. The winners in each category will read their essay at the Library’s Anniversary Celebration on Friday May 7, 2010. In 500 words or less tell us how the library has touched your life. Entries should be sent by February 13 to FriendRoxburyLib@aol.com.

Bake Sale on Saturday, January 23rd


Visit the library on Saturday, January 23rd and peruse our Bake Sale.  Sponsored by the Board of Trustees, the proceeds from the Bake Sale will Benefit the Roxbury Public Library's 50th Anniversary Celebration.  Come hungry, leave happy!!!

Celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.


On Wednesday, January 20th we will be celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a preschool craft-time @ the Roxbury Public Library.  We will begin at 10:30am with a short poem about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and follow up with special craft.  Registration is required.  Click here to register.
